YouTube

We embed videos from YouTube using YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode. This mode may set cookies on your computer once you click on the YouTube video player (for bandwidth-discovery and views-increment), but YouTube will not store personally-identifiable cookie information for playbacks of embedded videos using the privacy-enhanced mode. The embedded videos do not set cookies themselves and can be played with no cookies set.

By contrast, the default YouTube video embeds (so not our privacy-enhanced ones) would set cookies on user systems as soon as they open web pages with embedded YouTube videos. Google could then use these cookies to deliver targeted advertisement, add information to the user’s profile, or track the user. Google could then also set a Doubleclick advertising cookie, which tells Doubleclick the time and date you saw an advert, records your IP address and can make a good guess of your country and city. Doubleclick is a business owned by Google that makes money from online advertisers and publishers. In their privacy policy, Google explains how data is recorded from a generic Doubleclick cookie.

For more information on how YouTube uses cookies, please refer to Google’s privacy policy.
