Marjolein de Cleen

— Tours aren’t lectures, they’re conversations.

Hi! My name is Marjolein (a typical Dutch name, hence the M in MforAmsterdam) and I am a certified city guide in Amsterdam.

Born and raised in one of the prettiest cities I know, initially my love for Amsterdam came from my parents, who were both as attached to Amsterdam as I am now. Their personal stories combined with my own experience and knowledge helped make me the guide I am now.

After working for many years as a PA in international business life I decided to switch careers and follow my passion. I undertook a study to become a professional guide, started reading every book I could find about my city and spent many hours in our fantastic museums and the city’s archives. And above all I walked for hours and hours. And still I learned the most from the actual experience of guiding guests around the city, always discovering new approaches and angles.

I can wholeheartedly say this is the nicest job I’ve ever had. Walking through this city, where my heart is, and meeting people from all over the world (as well as the ones who live here) with whom I can connect and share my passion for Amsterdam, telling interesting and fun stories about its rich history, as well as learning about my guest’s backgrounds, is just wonderful.

I love to inspire travelers, share my passion for Amsterdam and bring my own knowledge, experience and personal anecdotes to the tours. Helping to create unforgettable experiences for others is one of the best parts of the job.
