Allard Pierson Archeological Museum
The Allard Pierson houses the collections of the former Allard Pierson Museum and the Special Collections of the University of Amsterdam.
The museum was rebranded as the Allard Pierson in 2019. Named after Mr. Allard Pierson (1831-1896), the first professor of Classical Archaeology at the University of Amsterdam, it opened its doors in 1934 at the Sarphatistraat. Its current location (since 1976) is the former headquarters of the Nederlandse Bank (Dutch National Bank) on Oude Turfmarkt 127.
Artefacts on display include pottery, coins, glassware, jewelry and statues from Egypt, Greece, the Near East, and from Etruscan and Roman empires, from 4000 BC to 500 AD.
