M for Amsterdam
guided city walks — in synergy with your wishes — in harmony with the surroundings
Amsterdam is a charming, vibrant and tolerant city with a rich history, beautiful canals and warehouses, tiny alleys, old cafés and restaurants and great architecture. The city has many faces but one thing is certain: Amsterdam is never dull or boring. No matter what day or season, Amsterdam never ceases to surprise you.
As a qualified private tour guide, born and raised in Amsterdam, I can show you the hidden spots and tell you the exciting stories behind the facades. History and culture combined with personal stories. All tours will be English spoken (Dutch for NL groups). Please join me on one of my tours through the city and allow me to share my love and passion for Amsterdam with you on interesting walks packed with fun.
See my Philosophy & Approach.
Amsterdam has around 875,000 inhabitants, a total surface of around 219 km2 (136 mi2), of which 165 km2 (102 mi2) is land and 54 km2 (33.5 mi2) is water. There are 165 canals with a combined length of 75 km (46.6 mi). Alongside are 1,550 monumental buildings and 1,539 bridges (252 in the inner city).
Amsterdam hosts 179 different nationalities. Over 40 parks and 400,000 trees keep the city breathing. The famous Canal Belt was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in August 2010. An estimated 17 million tourists visit Amsterdam each year.
With 1,325 restaurants, Amsterdam offers Dutch, Indonesian, French, Italian, Spanish, South American, Chinese, Indian, Thai, Asian, Kosher, Turkish, Moroccan, vegan and many more cuisines, take your pick.
The 1,515 cafés and bars in the city ensure you are never more than 50ft away from a cosy café or bar. Spending an afternoon watching the world go by from the comfort of a canal side terrace is certainly a very pleasurable experience.
Lots of smaller food & drink places can take care of your needs between meals.
Amsterdam is home to 53 museums and 55 theaters and concert halls. Everyone knows the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and Stedelijk Museum, but the city also has a multitude of treasures outside of the Museum District in galleries, exhibitions and smaller museums.
Museums like the Rembrandt House, the Maritime Museum, Our Lord In the Attic, Willet-Holthuysen, Van Loon, Tropenmuseum, Below the Surface, or quirkier ones like the Houseboat Museum, Canal House Museum or Museum Het Schip — they are all worth a visit.
